Lakers Owner Jeanie Buss Addressed Magic Johnson’s Abrupt Departure On Twitter

Former Los Angeles Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson.

"Magic, from my point of view now, listening to him talk, he's just a face". On his infamous early-season meeting with Luke: "I think everybody blew that up". The system is crumbling down.

He said he was exhausted of not being able to talk to players on other teams and mentor them without the specter of tampering.

"In the process of vetting agent candidates during meetings, LaVar is inquiring if the agencies have the power to pair his three sons - Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo - on the same National Basketball Association team".

Walton is expected to be fired as the head coach of the Lakers following a disappointing 2018-19 season, though that hasn't happened yet.

"I'm a free bird, and I can't be handcuffed", he said.

It doesn't sound as if Rob Pelinka is getting Magic Johnson's endorsement. The future of the Lakers appears to be in the hands of Jeanie Buss and her only. This comes two years after Magic took the position, and he told the press that he made his decision because he "had more fun when I was able to be the big brother and the ambassador to everybody".

The Lakers face a make or break offseason, as they search for a second star to pair with James in their quest to vault back into the Western Conference's upper echelon. Some of Johnson's other moves have worked out much better, including the Lakers' drafting of Lonzo Ball, the acquisition of Kyle Kuzma and the bargain signing of center JaVale McGee. Many in the media are concerned that playing with LeBron James could be seen as a negative, given the constant spotlight surrounding him.

But after James strained his groin at Christmas and subsequently sat out for the longest injury absence of his 16-year National Basketball Association career, the Lakers were unable to compile enough midseason wins to stay in playoff contention.

Nothing has gone according to plan for the Lakers this season.

League sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that Johnson and Pelinka visited with James and his agent, Rich Paul, on Saturday.

The Lakers are finishing this season with their best record in six years, but they were eliminated from playoff contention back on March 22.

Walton told reporters in his pregame news conference that he was not anxious about his future. He said both were decisions for Buss.

"She doesn't know I'm standing here", Johnson said. "I knew if I stayed in the role, I'd be giving up a lot of me".
