Sophie Turner Stuns In The Latest Trailer For X Men: Dark Phoenix

"I get to beat up a lot of X-Men in the movie".

After a long wait thanks to bulk reshoots and other production delays, we have both a release date and a new trailer for the next (and possibly final??) instalment in the X-Men films: Dark Phoenix.

Guess we'll all find out when Kinberg's film (his directorial debut, it's worth noting) hits theaters on June 7th.

He added: "Mystique is someone who in our universe has been part of the X-Men and has been part of Magneto's world".

Plot's it all about?: In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey, as played by Game of Thrones favourite Sophie Turner. After that expired, most - even Lawrence - thought she wouldn't return. "Her death impacts literally everybody". Later, Jessica Chastian's unnamed character - who is said to be playing an alien shapeshifter - convinces Grey that she's special and that she needs to "embrace the force inside her".

As for why it was Mystique who had to die, it's important to think about her relationship to Jean after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. We also get to see Jen Grey coming to everyone's rescue in one of the scenes. Mystique approaches Jean, and tells her to focus on her. Jean pushes Mystique away using her mutant powers, and this is apparently where the shape-shifter meets her end. Or did Jean cause someone else's death?

The trailer unfolds to show us Jean's powers.

Meanwhile, it looks like Mystique won't be the only beloved X-Men character fans lose in Dark Phoenix. The X-Men are locked up on a train that, according to Kinberg, "comes under attack from forces I'll leave vague for now", before Phoenix-Jean lifts it up off the tracks and into the sky.

Kinberg also described how Jean's sudden loss of control will split the X-Men into two factions. Jean says later, through tears, as she talks to the emerging Dark Phoenix inside her.

Maybe that gives something like Dark Phoenix reason to do this, as it needs buzz amid the Disney-Fox deal and the plethora of superhero films set to precede it: Captain Marvel, Hellboy, Shazam and Endgame.

You might think the X-Men franchise is coming to a head exclusively because of 20th Century Fox merging with Disney, which will eventually put the X-Men in the hands of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "It felt like not this is the end necessarily, but this is it for them".
