Yesterday, Prime Minister Khan met Pakistan's High Commissioner to India Sohail Mehmood and gave him advice on Pakistan-India relations before returning to his post in New Delhi.

Pakistani officials say the crackdown is part of a long-planned drive and not a response to Indian anger over what New Delhi calls Islamabad's failure to rein in militant groups operating on Pakistani soil.

Tensions between India and Pakistan worsened after a Kashmir suicide bombing on February 14 killed 40 CRPF troopers and was claimed by the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

There is every possibility that the detention could also be an attempt by the Pakistan Army to provide security to these terrorists, given the "fear psychosis" that has gripped Pakistan in the past few days following the Indian Air Force strike at Balakot, an Indian official said. The JeM is a UN-designated terrorist group that has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks and is a threat to regional stability. This is better for us, for Pakistan's own future.

The relationship between India and Pakistan has historically been troubled, but this week, tensions escalated with both countries launching airstrikes against one another.

In an opinion piece, the NYT's editorial board emphasised that although the Indo-Pak tensions have diffused, for now, the two countries' "nuclear arsenals mean unthinkable consequences are always possible".

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been in regular contact with the Pakistani leaders to cool down the nuclear armed neighbours.

"Initial inputs indicate the likely cause of accident as bird hit after take off", the Indian Air Force said in a statement.

Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh stirred a political controversy by terming Pulwama terror attack as an accident.

"The kind of action our government is taking, there will be more panic among them", PM Modi said at a public rally in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur adding, "We have to be careful in fulfilling our responsibilities towards the nation".

"A solution to a conflict that touches so many religious and nationalist nerves must ultimately come from within, through talks among India, Pakistan and the people of [occupied] Kashmir".

Continuing his tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he alleged that Modi was creating two Indias - one in which only the rich benefited and the other in which farmers seeking loan waiver are let down.
