The hearing was held by Judge Lori Rosen, who last month warned Kelly that he faced jail time unless he paid the child support and interest.

R. Kelly could not come up with the money so he was placed in handcuffs and led off to the Cook County Jail.

Savage's family has long explained she's been brainwashed and held captive by Kelly, a claim he and Joycelyn Savage deny.

Kelly's publicist Darryll Johnson told the Associated Press the R&B star had been prepared to pay $50,000 to $60,000 at Wednesday's hearing, but the judge requested the full amount.

"I'm crying because you guys don't know the truth", Clary said, according to an excerpt of the interview released on Wednesday.

Police are investigating new allegations that R&B singer R. Kelly raped a 13-year-old girl over a four year period and once gave her herpes.

In an emotionally charged interview with Gayle King that aired Wednesday on CBS This Morning, the singer grew increasingly agitated, eventually looking directly into the camera, yelling and standing up out of his chair.

The second part of Kelly's interview will air Thursday morning on CBS.

His attorney, Steven Greenberg, was at his side. Court records indicate a 47-year-old Romeoville woman posted his bail, identifying herself on the bond slip as Kelly's "friend". "Trying to rescue someone that doesn't need rescuing because they're not in my house", Kelly said, listing off some of the things he's heard about himself.

"I didn't do this stuff".

The 52-year-old singer was taken out the back of the courtroom at Chicago's Daley Center with his hands behind his back. Kelly has consistently denied any sexual misconduct and was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008.

Kelly, shaking his head, replied, "Not true!" During the sit-down, they both broke down in tears, with one vehemently blaming her parents for the narrative that is now surrounding the controversial star.

On Wednesday's broadcast, Kelly's emotions swung wildly as he explained he was simply someone with a "big heart" who was betrayed by liars who hoped to cash in.

CBS also plans to air interviews with two women who are now living with Kelly, including one whose parents say she is being held against her will. He has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse. "It's not fair", Kelly also tells King during the interview. "Forget the blogs, forget how you feel about me", Kelly said. "Because he knows that after over two decades of sexually abusing underage girls, we blew this wide open and have him and his enablers dead to rights".
