LeBron James sounds off again after Lakers loss to Pelicans

Lost in the fallout from the Los Angeles Lakers' 0-2 road trip through New Orleans and Memphis was LeBron James' declaration of self-accountability.

The Lakers have been mediocre at best this season, have virtually no chemistry after LeBron's antics with the Anthony Davis rumors at the deadline, and are floundering, as they now sit three games out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

James meanwhile has always cautioned that rebuilding the Lakers would be a long-term project, stating in September that he anticipated "bumps and bruises" as the team attempted to rebuild after missing the playoffs for five straight seasons prior to his arrival.

James was speaking to the vast media focus on the team potentially missing the playoffs.

This was not the vision when LeBron James joined the Lakers in last offseason's blockbuster move to L.A.

After the Lakers' loss to the Pelicans on Saturday, James questioned the experience of the team to qualify for the postseason.

"I would never get comfortable with losing. Right now, the word that I think as far as playoffs is very bleak".

"At this point, if you are still allowing distractions to affect the way you play, then this is the wrong franchise to be a part of", James said.

Against Memphis, Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram combined for 56 points, but the Lakers had nothing from their second unit.

While the Lakers now sit at 29-31 with three teams either boasting the same or a better record for the eighth and final playoff spot, tensions are high among the fanbase. Just come and do your job. And the Lakers are in the thick of a competitive playoff race.

Frankly, James hasn't even been playing with the full level of effort we're used to seeing from him, like this particular display on defense (notice how he blamed his teammates?). James made sure to show it on the court. "If you don't want to be traded or you don't want to be talked about, step up".

Rondo has gotten worse every game since the Christmas day rout of the Warriors. But he's also been lambasted for seemingly giving up on the Lakers.
