They traded their star, Kristaps Porzingis, to the Dallas Mavericks to free up cap space that now makes them capable of signing two superstars on max contracts.

The Latvian will have his introductory news conference in Dallas on Monday but issued a short statement to his former followers in NY on Instagram.

Porzingis will reportedly not play this season as he continues recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear he suffered a year ago.

"I can answer that for you", Cuban said.

"I feel great, feel great, but as I said, we're taking our time", Porzingis said.

He conceivably could become an unrestricted free agent in July 2020 if he chooses to sign his qualifying offer this summer and decline any extension offers from Dallas.

The 2017 ninth overall pick averaged 12.9 points per contest on 44 percent shooting in 32 games with the Mavs this season.

But multiple teams interested in making an offer for Porzingis said that they were unable to do so before NY traded Porzingis to Dallas, league sources said.

ESPN then caught up to Cuban after the presser to ask if he's anxious that Porzingis may eventually sign elsewhere. With Doncic watching from the back of the room, Porzingis expressed excitement about forming a long-term partnership with a playmaker he has been friends with since they were both playing professionally in Spain.

"We have a great relationship", Porzingis said of Doncic. "Because after this trade and everything the fans still want me to go out there and play".
