He observed a similar daylong fast a year ago on his birthday on April 20 in Vijaywada.

Leaders and activists of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Congress, Left parties, employees' and student groups, trade unions and other mass organisations fighting for Special Category Status (SCS) for the state staged the protests in all 13 districts.

Naidu will begin the "Dharma Porata Deeksha" at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan at 8 am after paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat. "He has come to AP to mock at us", Naidu said. The state government hired two special trains to ferry people to Delhi.

"The pain of the indigenous people will be seen across Assam tomorrow...effigies of the prime minister will be burnt in every corner of the state", said AASU president Dipanka Nath.

In his hour-long speech, the PM devoted 15 minutes to talking about the three oil and gas projects and how they would help the State and the country and the remaining 45 minutes to castigating the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, his son and the State IT Minister Nara Lokesh and the TDP.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the development initiative taken by the BJP government in the last five years and said that the central government is committed for development of the Northeast. Addressing a BJP rally in Guntur amid protests across the state, he targeted the TDP chief accusing him of corruption.

Modi said the NDA government had a different approach to national security and that it was the country's dream to be self-sufficient in defence production and ensure "our forces have all possible support they require in keeping our nation safe".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday said an army coup would never happen in India apparently referring to alleged planting of false stories that the army under the then chief V K Singh had planned such a move in 2011-12.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the DD "Arun Prabha" Channel in Itanagar. "Her name is Jashodaben", Naidu told a public meeting at Vijayawada. Modi said that Naidu, who keeps reminding him of his seniority is only 'senior in backstabbing'.

Naidu also called demonetisation a "mad Tughlaq act".
