Superstar veteran Dhoni again steered India to victory, scoring an unbeaten 87 off 114 balls - his third fifty from as many games - to repeat his match-winning heroics in Adelaide.

To the delight of the cricket fans in the country, MS Dhoni seemed back in his classic "finisher" avatar as he helped India chase their 231-run target and register their maiden bilateral ODI series win in Australia on 18 January.

India clinched the one-day global series with a seven-wicket victory with four balls to spare in the third and deciding game against Australia in Melbourne on Friday.

"We are feeling confident and balanced as a side with the World Cup in mind".

Earlier, Yuzvendra Chahal claimed six wickets, his second ODI five-wicket haul, as India wrapped up the home team for 230 runs.

"Jhye has had an impressive first half in his Sheffield Shield season and no-one could deny he has now continued that form in ODI matches for Australia", national selector Trevor Hohns said.

India win toss, bowl in MCG ODI decider

First, Marsh was stumped attempting to play a wide delivery down leg side as MS Dhoni quickly removed the bails.

Despite fiercely advocating Dhoni for the No.5 spot, Kohli had him bat at 4 at the MCG, but that was down to the inclusions of Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar for the first time on tour. Actor has wished the Indian cricket team on their ODIseries win over Australia.

While Usman Khawaja 34 (51) and Marsh 39 (54) steadied the team with a partnership, Chahal dismissed both the batsmen.

It was an underwhelming batting performance by the Australians, who managed just 17 boundaries before they were bowled out with eight balls left. "When you give some great players a couple of chances, it always hurts", Australia captain Aaron Finch said. He twice removed Virat Kohli in the three matches. Three balls later, Khawaja top edged a simple return catch to Chahal as Australia were reduced to 101-4.

As we wait for India's 12-member squad, it is expected that Mohammed Siraj, who came in place of Khaleel Ahmed will be benched after giving away 76 runs in the second ODI in Adelaide.

Marcus Stoinis lasted 20 balls before he became Chahal's third victim, caught at slip by Rohit Sharma for 10, leaving Australia rocking at 123 for five in the 30th over.
