Fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev reached the semifinals at the Brisbane International by beating Milos Raonic 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 on Friday. "I felt like I was too fast on the court - now, I will go for a trophy".

And he showed all the qualities of a top-five player in his 66-minute demolition at Pat Rafter Arena.

The victory followed a semi-final performance Nishikori described as "almost perfect" and came as a relief after he lost the decider in Brisbane two years ago. "Tomorrow I will go for a trophy", Nishikori, the 2014 U.S. open finalist said after the win.

Daniil Medvedev may skip his Sydney International defence after a deep run in Brisbane ended with rivals predicting his rise into the world's top 10. "I feel like I didn't really know how to cope with not playing well", Osaka said.

"And he did really well the last game, I mean the 4-3 game".

"I managed to come back in the second set, but he played unbelievable and deserved it", Medvedev said of Nishikori.

"I think everything was against me today".

"Maybe first match [against Denis Kudla] was a little bit tight, but after Dimi's [Grigor Dimitrov] match and today's match was nearly ideal, I would say".

Donna Vekic defeated 2018 finalist Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-2, 6-0 to reach the women's semifinals and will next play fifth-seeded Karolina Pliskova, who beat Ajla Tomljanovic 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.

"I was sulking a bit and there are moments that I tried not to do that".

The 30-year-old Spaniard missed much of last year with injury, but beat both Stan Wawrinka and world No1 Novak Djokovic on his way to his first title since Dubai last year.

"I'm going to go there and practice tomorrow and see how it goes and decide from there", he told AAP.

Osaka, who withdrew from next week's Sydney International, said Saturday's experience was better than winning in Brisbane as she gears up for the Australian Open later this month. I felt there is no chance I can win.
