"It", being Caddy's first ever electric vehicle.

Cadillac President Steve Carlisle promised that the new model "will bring together luxury and innovation".

DETROIT - Cadillac furthered its recent product blitz today with the reveal of the brand's first EV. GM said its gearing up to position Cadillac as a luxury rival to the current segment leader, Tesla.

GM's future EV platform, which Cadillac is the first to utilize, will be flexible, with a relatively short design and development lead time.

The electric auto is a sleek, sexy crossover SUV with a design clearly cribbed from the equally stunning Escala concept vehicle shown in 2016, and while it doesn't have a name yet the development is being fast-tracked around a new modular EV platform General Motors only announced on Friday. According to the automaker, it can tailor EVs made on the architecture "for maximum usability throughout GM vehicle lineups in different countries". "The battery system will also be adjustable, based on vehicle and customer requirements".

The XT6 will soon be followed by a new Escalade and a new performance sedan.

If the upcoming Cadillac EV is to be a crossover, it could lock horns with the likes of Jaguar I-Pace, Tesla Model X and the Infiniti QX Inspiration (Subject to production), among others.

The new electric Caddy SUV will be GMs first electric vehicle to use GM's new third-generation electric-car architecture, with a versatile "skateboard" chassis and a battery-pack design that can accommodate different capacities in the same format.
