Lionel Messi: Neymar return from PSG welcome; Barcelona my 'home'

Barcelona and Argentina great Lionel Messi has said it's natural that any football club will be affected if it loses a player like Cristiano Ronaldo while maintaining that he isn't surprised Real Madrid have felt his absence in the ongoing La Liga season.

Ronaldo ended his nine year reign with Real Madrid this summer and joined the Italian champions to begin a new challenge in the Serie A. "Like me, accept the challenge".

Despite all the success that Messi has had on the football pitch, he has insisted that there is still one higher priority in his life.

In snippets released from the interview, Messi said, "I love football, but family is above everything".

"I'm at the best team in the world". PSG won't let him quit'. My challenges are renewed year after year.

With Ronaldo having left for Juventus at the end of the previous campaign, Los Blancos have struggled for the most part so far this season, and have already undergone a change of manager.

"I heard the nominees for the Ballon d'Or and I knew I would not be in the fight", Messi told Marca.

"I am at home, at the best team in the world and I don't have any reason to want to change".

During Ronaldo's time with the Blancos, he won La Liga twice and lifted the Champions League four times.

"The rivalry with Cristiano was very healthy and very attractive for the spectators".

Unforgivably, Messi came in fifth during the Ballon d'Or voting behind Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Ronaldo and the aforementioned Croatian.

Juventus winger Ronaldo recently pondered the idea that Messi may be pining for his fellow five-time Ballon d'Or victor, who left La Liga's Real Madrid for the Turin club in the summer for €100 million, and teased him about the idea to "accept the challenge" of joining him in Serie A.
