The weather service is expecting only light snow accumulation of about an inch.

In northern New England, a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain added up to make for risky driving Friday for post-holiday travelers.

Lincoln and much of Eastern Nebraska is in a Winter Weather advisory until 6AM Friday morning.

Forty-seven-year-old Marilyn Balogi, of Zimmerman, was killed.

Whether it's snow, a wintry mix, or freezing rain, gusty winds will reduce visibility, and roads will be messy, so travel will be poor across the Northland through Thursday.

In central Minnesota's Crow Wing County, a pedestrian was struck on a road by a pickup with a plow blade.


Over 11 inches of rain already has fallen across some localized areas of Louisiana and MS, where flash flood emergencies were issued overnight Thursday into Friday morning. "We had an extreme flash flooding event", said Glen Moore, the emergency management director in Forrest County, in southwestern MS, which saw 9 inches fall over 12 hours through early Friday. He said he's heard reports of some water rescues, but luckily the area is sparsely populated.

"This was a flash flood type of situation", he said.

A warm front will move into the region, turning the precipitation into rain by the afternoon.

Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer on Wednesday declared a state of emergency.

And the storm system is not done yet, as it is forecast to bring heavy rain further east on Friday. The Nebraska Transportation Department listed almost two-thirds of the state's highways as partially or fully covered with snow Friday morning.
