The hashtag #FacebookDown was trending on Twitter.

According to Downdetector.com, Facebook and Instagram users began reporting issues with the site around 8 a.m.

"Earlier today, a routine test caused users to have trouble accessing or posting to all Facebook services including WhatsApp and Instagram".

"Your Time on Facebook" tool will allow users to set a daily limit of app usage and receive a reminder to stop after that many minutes each day. The feature has been specifically created to help with Facebook addiction, but also to enable users to better manage their social networking.

"We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps".

Reports of the outage first came in at about 8pm.

Others joked about actually having to do work Tuesday morning without Facebook available as a form of procrastination.

Facebook posted on Twitter that they were working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
