I'm sorry, but a game without Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and DeMarcus Cousins means that we won't really learn much about how Toronto stacks up against Golden State. Two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry was sidelined for an 11th consecutive game because of a lingering groin issue.

The Golden State Warriors eight-game win streak over the Raptors ended on Thursday night before a bellowing Toronto crowd revelling in what could be a preview of the National Basketball Association finals.

The first of two meetings between the National Basketball Association heavyweights didn't disappoint in the slightest, with the Warriors and Raptors exchanging blows and showcasing deep rosters and top-flight talent for 48-minutes plus overtime as the Raptors took a thriller 131-128.

Golden State Warrior fan Riley Morrison, 9, of Napa, California, said she asked her dad for the new Curry 5 sneakers ahead of the new basketball season.

It was the first time Durant and Leonard met in a regular-season game since the 2016-17 season opener.

The night had a post-season buzz, and the fans stood for the extra period, erupting when Green knocked down a three with 2:07 to play to put Toronto up by three. An injury took Leonard out of that contest, allowing the Warriors to come back and steal a win before eventually sweeping the series. Leonard had last faced the Warriors in Game 1 of the 2017 Western Conference finals, when he injured his ankle and left the floor with his San Antonio Spurs ahead by 21 points. As evidenced by their record when leading after one, the Raptors' starting unit has a big hand in dictating the direction in which games will go.

Sure, Kevin Durant scored 51 points, but when Leonard was guarding him, he had to work for each bucket. Then Leonard and Lowry hit another gear.

"More to come on that, but plan to be in Oakland on that night!" The Raptors raced out to an early 18-point lead, and for the most part maintained a double-digit advantage until Durant lit it up late in the third quarter.

Leonard went into the game a flawless 6-for-6 in the regular season and playoffs against Golden State since the 2014-15 season, averaging 20.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Durant seemingly had an answer for each run made by the Raptors and kept the Warriors within striking distance despite being shorthanded.

Thompson scored nine points in the second and Durant added eight as Golden State cut the deficit to single digits.
