Panthers' Reid returns, kneels during national anthem

The Giants (1-4) are again in last place in the NFC East heading into their Thursday night matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL hasn't seen a 63-yard game-winning field goal like Graham Gano's since November 8, 1970, when the Saints' Tom Dempsey hit what was then the longest field goal in league history to down the Lions 19-17. It capped an eventful weekend that included Beckham addressing the team to clarify comments made earlier this week. "You know, if somebody's messing with me during my time to be out of the cage, like, it's going to be a problem".

"I addressed it with Odell. Our mindset will be everybody stay focused on beating Philadelphia".

MORE McCAFFREY: Aided by Newton's skills as a runner, the Panthers have the league's No. 1-ranked rushing offense, while the Giants are 29th against the run. It ended a four-game drought. "Just couldn't find the lines today", Crosby said. "He's tough. He's competitive". His passing has been on-point too: 67.4 percent for completion, five TDs, and just one pick.

Eli Manning came under fire immediately following the Giants loss to the Saints for not testing the weak Saints secondary deep down the field.

"I said that I would be considering other ways, and I'm still considering", Reid said.

"I'm in a position I've never been in", Beckham said.

Here are four things we took away from Sunday.

"Obviously, I love seeing the sunshine all the time".

An animated Shurmur wanted to put it behind him after the game. They lost that game as well. "Just getting back in the groove, going back to what I was doing in college (at Ohio State), I feel like it's similar to me". I addressed it with Odell. "I don't need to say any teams".

Then he threw in a Shakespeare reference, saying: "I'm not going to give the public a pound of flesh on this". "I was thinking to myself, I hope he was and is as excited as everyone is having him". "And I'll make that decision later".

Still, Shurmur might want to reconsider imploring the media: "Let's talk football, not drama".

Smith said Reid's stance on racial injustice hasn't been an issue in the locker room, adding that "no one cares" if he kneels or not during the national anthem.

"It had been on my heart since the Dallas game, honestly", Beckham said.

Looking ahead, Carolina will get Pro Bowl outside linebacker Thomas Davis back from a four-game suspension and Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen is on target to return from a foot injury. They're already down 14-3 in the second while showing no signs of life.

But these are the 2018 Giants. Until it does, they will likely remain the center of attention.
