Seal attacks kayaker with octopus

Mr Mulinder told Yahoo7 that despite the seal's apparent dominance in the scrap, the octopus actually came out victor.

Video footage of a kayaker put in a sticky situation after a seal launched a large octopus at his face has gone viral across the world.

Wrote Masuda in the YouTube description: "Right around lunchtime, several seals started to swim around, we just thought they were refreshing their body, yet apparently they were seeking more of food". And now we also know that seals and octopuses don't get along. The friend described it as a day to remember!

A stunned Mulinder can be seen wincing from the impact before the two animals disappear into the water.

The octopus seemingly won the fight in the end, clinging to the bottom of Mr Mulinder's kayak for safety until it was removed.

Mulinder said he instantly got attention for the video, and was recognized while he was on his way to the Network 10 interview.

The seal reappears around the flotilla of kayaks a couple more times before disappearing back into the depths, possibly to rearm with another cephalopod and go back on the offensive.

That's evident from another video, shot past year, showing a seal chomping on an octopus.

"We were just sitting out in the middle of the ocean and then this huge male seal appeared with an octopus and he was thrashing him about for ages", Mulinder told Yahoo News about the freak encounter with nature.

Mulinder said he is a professional GoPro-er and with his new-found internet fame, he wants to draw attention to the location of the octopus whipping.
