Man Shot Outside Ice Cub Concert at Del Mar Racetrack

The shooting at the Del Mar racetrack took place as a concert by the rapper Ice Cube was scheduled to start soon.

The newspaper says people saw police and sheriff's department cars arrive at the Del Mar Racetrack about 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

Gun shots were fired Sunday afternoon near the Del Mar race track north of San Diego.

Sheriff's deputies responded by returning fire, hitting Elizarraras multiple times in the torso and arm. The man pulled out a silver plated semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots into a crowded area.

Ice Cube tweeted at his fans, "come see ya homie Cube... but leave the strap at home".

The San Diego Sheriff's department confirmed to Fox 5 that one person was injured in the shooting.

As the crowd panicked and fled, nearby deputies shot the man, leaving him lying on the sidewalk.

The sheriff's department said the alleged gunman shot by deputies was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

The gunfire happened as the final race of the day was underway, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. "In light of the circumstances that unfolded involving one individual with a gun, we take consolation in the fact that no patrons, officers or security personnel were injured in the incident", the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club said in a statement.

We will continue to fully cooperate with the Sherriff's Department in their investigation and will refer all questions concerning the incident to them.

Following the shooting, the concert moved "forward as planned", the racetrack said.
