FIFA AWARD: Rhor voted Modric, Mikel voted Messi

The award is won by a Premier League player for the second successive year (the then Arsenal man, Olivier Giroud won the accolade last year).

Normally, Salah's snub would have been accepted and people would simply accept that the players who did make it were simply better or had a better season.

The awards saw a number of contradictions based on the voting set up, with the Best Goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, not included in the Best XI.

And The Best Fifa Awards have done a grand job of proving that. Lennart missed a game for VVV-Venlo against PSV Eindhoven to donate stem cells to try and help a Leukaemia patient.

The team was selected in a 4-2-3-1 formation, as David de Gea got the nod in goal, while the defence was made up of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane at centre back, with Dani Alves and Marcelo at right back and left back.

Salah was one of three men nominated for Fifa's best men's player of the year, along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric, but was beaten out.

Luka Modric Monday won FIFA's The Best award after helping Real Madrid to win the Champions League and playing a key role for Croatia at the 2018 World Cup.

Bale's former Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona star Lionel Messi were also on the shortlist but were pipped to the prize by Salah, who struck in a Premier League draw against Liverpool's rivals.

Also, Ronaldo missing out on the ceremony is a major hint that he won't be picking up the award - he never usually shows up to award shows that he loses out on!

The 26-year-old's strike in last season's Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield was awarded the prestigious award.

The Argentina worldwide didn't enjoy the best World Cup, and the Catalan club didn't do brilliantly in the Champions League this season, although they did win La Liga.
