Roma win race to sign Brazilian winger Malcom from Bordeaux

Roma have moved to quickly put the disappointment of missing out on Malcom behind them, announcing the arrival of Sweden worldwide goalkeeper Robin Olsen for an initial €8.5m fee.

The signing comes after Bordeaux blocked the transfer of the 21-year-old to Italian giants Roma following a last-minute bid from the Catalan side on Monday.

Barcelona have gone all "Willian to Chelsea" by pinching Bordeaux winger Malcom from under the noses of Roma for around £36 million, just 24 hours after he looked certain to move to Italy.

Malcom agreed a five-year deal to move to the Camp Nou, with a release clause expected to be fixed at €400m.

He cancelled his Monday night flight to Rome, leaving expectant fans disappointed at the airport.

In a statement on the website the club announced, "FC Barcelona and Girondins de Bordeaux have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira". Instead, terms were being negotiated with Barca, who had gazumped Roma's bid, which was reported to have been in the region of €32m. He will immediately fly out to the United States to link up with his new teammates for the International Champions Cup once his medical is complete.

But Malcom became their primary target after a campaign during which he scored 12 goals and laid on eight assists in all competitions.
