Ozil was also criticised for meeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in May, when the pair were photographed holding up an Arsenal shirt, and he has yet to comment on his withdrawal since he announced it through social media.

"I am very happy with him, every player is looking together and Mesut has the respect of every player here".

Mumbai: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has come out in support of Germany's football star Mesut Ozil after he announced his retirement from global football, following the World Cup debacle, citing racism.

He said in Ankara it's "truly unacceptable that a young man who has given everything to the German national team and has contributed to its success is facing such a racist attitude because of his religion".

The 2014 World Cup-winner said he was unfairly maligned over Germany´s group-stage exit in Russian Federation, after some media highlighted a pre-tournament photo with Turkey´s strongman President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan told Turkish journalists on Tuesday he spoke to Ozil on Monday.

Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson and midfielder Alex Iwobi sat alongside Ozil at the fan event in Singapore.

Asked about Ozil's decision to retire from Germany duties, Emery responded: 'He thinks what is best for him, he explained his decision and here we need to help him.

"For him it´s one thing with the national team and another with us", Emery said.

Emery added: 'All of us want to help Mesut feel like it is his home here with us, like a family and it is a family for every player.

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech also said the players were keen to support Ozil, who smashed the club´s transfer record when he moved from Real Madrid in 2013. I am sure he is going to have a big season with us'. As a team that's all we can do.
