"I just want to say I'm thankful to the D.A. and the judge for allowing me to move forward", McGregor said in a brief statement outside the courthouse.

The charges stemmed from an incident at Barclays Center in which McGregor threw a hand truck into a bus, shattering the window and forcing Chiesa and Borg to withdraw from the event after being injured by shards of glass.

McGregor was also ordered to pay restitution for the damage made to the bus. Nurmagomedov later issued a challenge to McGregor to show up with his team to settle the matter.

Ray Borg and Michael Chiesea, two of the fighters who were forced out of planned fights during that event, have a restraining order against McGregor until July 2020.

Today, McGregor avoided a career-debilitating felony that would have prevented him from traveling into the USA for fights. "I want to say to my friends, my family, my fans, thank you for the support", McGregor said in a statement outside the court.

McGregor had faced multiple criminal charges stemming from an altercation in April with other fighters.

At a court hearing today, McGregor and his co-accused Cian Cowley were informed that the serious charges over the incident would be reduced to a count of disorderly conduct.

McGregor hasn't fought since his marquee boxing match against Floyd Mayweather in August of previous year.

The UFC stripped him of its 155-pound championship belt in April because he had not fought in 17 months.

McGregor has not set foot in the Octagon for a bout since defeating Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title at UFC 205 in November of 2016. The most obvious fight to make is the one with current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, and MMA journalist Ariel Helwani believes there are three possible dates for the Notorious to face off with his Russian adversary.
