Previously, the seat was taken by "Finding Dory", after it earned $135 million in its opening weekend in 2016.

The sequel to 2004's The Incredibles, Incredibles 2 continues the story of the family of Incredibles.

Disney is reportedly asking theaters to add an epilepsy warning to the much-anticipated "Incredibles 2" after a number of social media users warned of scenes with intense flashing lights as the film was released this weekend. It was Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast" that held the record for a PG debut with $174.8 million in 2017. The huge number also gives the movie the fifth-highest opening weekend for any superhero film, after Avengers: Infinity War ($257.6 million), Marvel's The Avengers ($207.4 million), Black Panther ($202 million), and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.2 million).

Although it's been 14 years since "The Incredibles" first hit cinemas, its sequel picks up just three months after the last film, with the destruction caused by the showdown in the last film not exactly having put the superhero Parr family in good stead with the public. "To over-perform by $40 million means everyone underestimated the power of animation to draw huge audiences". But even by the impressive standards elsewhere in the studio's catalogue, the record-smashing opening weekend for its latest movie, Incredibles 2, is an wonderful result. The film stars Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, and Jeremy Renner as a group of adult friends who are locked in a years long cross-country game of tag.

It knocked "Ocean's 8" to a distant second in its second weekend in theaters with $19.6 million.

"Incredibles 2" brought in 51.5 million dollars internationally this weekend, pushing its world cume to 231.5 million dollars through Sunday. The fourth film in the "Ocean's" franchise opened to $41.6 million and has earned $79 million globally.
