Jared Leto’s Joker Is Getting His Own Movie

"The Joker is somebody who doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries", Leto explained of his method "antics" back in the Suicide Squad days.

Per Variety, it looks like we won't be starving for Joker movies anytime soon as Jared Leto's Joker will now receive his own standalone feature that is wholly unconnected from the Todd Phillips-directed origin feature that was announced past year.

Leto's Joker, as fans noted, was nearly a glorified cameo in "Suicide Squad".

Previously, the film studios confirmed Margot Robbie's upcoming production, Birds Of Prey, which centers around her character, Harley Quinn.

There's been no update on the proposed Gotham City Sirens movie being developed by original Suicide Squad director David Ayer, but he seems to have moved on after the announcement of Bright 2 from Netflix, where he'll re-team with actor Will Smith.

Which Joker movies do you want to see?

All of this Joker news is starting to get as confusing as Matt Reeves' The Batman. Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly in talks star as the iconic comic book villain in that incarnation, but the studio has always been clear that those plans didn't signal the end for Leto's Joker. Now, there's two Joker movies in development.

The news of Leto's Joker movie going forward all-but-confirms the strategy. One movie will be the origin story, while Jared Leto's will focus on the partly established character that we saw glimpses of during Suicide Squad. According to reports, Warner Brothers and DC Films are looking to delve into their characters from prior films.

Leto unveiled his "clown prince of crime" in Suicide Squad, from which a Joker movie would spin-off, but it appears that executives at Warner Bros may have somewhat short memories.
