Man United jet off to the United States for their pre-season tour on July 15, the day of the World Cup Final, and with 12 representatives playing at the tournament in Russian Federation, including new signing Fred, could be without a big chunk of the squad at the start of preparations.

Fred - whose arrival comes after Michael Carrick's retirement and amid uncertainty surrounding Marouane Fellaini's future - will become United's first summer signing.

He picked 2010 World Cup winners Spain winning Group B with his native Portugal coming runners-up.

Mourinho's task will now be to harness Fred's passing ability, while also finally getting the best out of Pogba in his third season since an £89 million move from Juventus.

He believes United have bought a fine player and one who will do well for the Red Devils, even if he may not have an immediate impact. The Brazilian skipper gave Fred a hug before they took to the field. "I'm sorry Nemanja but you need a holiday", the Portugese added.

The Manchester United boss has tipped the Three Lions to top Group G - where they would be paired with Poland should Mourinho's premonitions come true.

Although Rivaldo never played in England, he once turned down a potential switch to Tottenham Hotspur and there was reported interest from Chelsea.

Mourinho worked with Arnautovic briefly at Inter Milan and is interested in bringing him to Old Trafford following his impressive second half of the season with the Hammers.

Fellow midfielders Anderson and Kleberson arrived with high hopes and despite making more than 200 appearances between them, failed to match expectations.
