'First Man': Ryan Gosling is Neil Armstrong in biopic

Ryan Gosling and Jimmy Kimmel dress up in spacesuits for an interview in outer space, well actually a soundstage in Los Angeles, for an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live on Friday (June 8).

The two-minute trailer shows Gosling's Armstrong grappling with the complexities of executing "one of the most risky missions in history" and the mission's personal impact on his anxious wife, played by Claire Foy, and their young sons. The film, which teams up Gosling with his La La Land director Damien Chazelle follows Armstrong's fantastic journey to becoming the first person to walk on the Moon in 1969.

Ryan Gosling takes on First Man, based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by author James R. Hansen, which was published by Simon & Schuster in 2005. The biopic will be set between 1961 and 1969, depicting the years leading up to NASA's Apollo 11 mission.


The film focuses on the lead-up to and events of that fateful event, chronicling Armstrong's life from the early 60s up until his historic achievement.

Universal Pictures has released the first poster for First Man, giving hopefuls an up-close-and-personal look at Gosling as Armstrong.

Damien Chazelle has become an Oscar favorite after his feature debut "Whiplash" won three awards and his follow-up, "La La Land", won six after earning a record-tying 14 nominations. Mowgli, Aviron's Serenity and Annapurna's Where'd You Go, Bernadette? The first trailer is online. The film also stars Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Patrick Fugit, Ciaran Hinds, Ethan Embry, Shea Whigham, Corey Stoll, and Pablo Schreiber.
