To compare, the BlackBerry KEYone was launched in the U.S. a year ago at $549.

While BlackBerry Mobile prepares to take the wrappers off its KEY2 smartphone in NY on June 7, the company is also looking to host an event in China for a different unveiling in the Asian region.

Before the event, Evan Blass has published images and the specifications of the upcoming model confirming one of its main features, a physical QWERTY keyboard that made the brand famous, backlighting for use in dark places, 35-key touch screen, and built-in fingerprint reader.

The front camera is 8-megapixels and capable of 1080p video recording, the rear can record 4K video. As per the details revealed in the teaser, BlackBerry's new flagship device could come with a dual lens camera and a pre-installed Privacy Shade and a new app drawer shortcut.

The combination of a Snapdragon 660 SoC processor with a large 3,500 mAh battery may result in longer operating time on a full charge.

The back of the BlackBerry KEY2 also seems to have distinct diamond pattern for added grip for holding the smartphone. This itself has then been coupled with a very respectable 6GB of RAM alongside the choice of either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. The BlackBerry Key2 is expected to come with a 4.5-in along with 3:2 aspect ratio display with 433 PPI, and with the resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels, the display sorts a scratch-resistant glass protection which makes the phone scratch proof. Also, while I have your attention, Russell Holly wrote up a fantastic article on Android Central covering why he is excited about the BlackBerry KEY2, be sure to give that a look!

In fact, we even know the likely price, as in a separate tweet Blass has claimed that it will cost $649 / £579 (around AU$1,015). There's also a USB-C port on the bottom of the phone and a headphone jack up top.

Expect to hear more from BlackBerry on June 7 when the official Key2 launch is expected.
