Armed bystander shoots, kills suspected carjacker at Walmart

Upon arriving, officers found a 16-year-old girl suffering from minor injuries.

Laura Wohl, spokeswoman for the Tumwater Police Department, said an adult man who had been shot was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The suspect went on to try stealing another vehicle in the Walmart parking lot before being approached by two armed bystanders.

"As we were speaking to witnesses at that scene, we get another call of shots fired here at Walmart", Wohl said.

Shots were fired at the Walmart in Tumwater at about 5pm local time (1am BST), according to reports. On Sunday, a gunman shot a man outside a Walmart in Washington State and wounded a teenager during a carjacking before being fatally shot to death by a bystander.

An active investigation was underway at multiple scenes at or around the Tumwater Walmart, all believed to be related to the incident.

Then at around 17:30, the suspect entered a Walmart Supercenter, where he fired shots at a display case and then went back outside where he continued shooting.

Police said there is no danger to the public.

There he attempted to carjack another vehicle, shooting an occupant in it at least twice.

Darren Gossler of Elma told the TNT that he was in the store when the shooting started.

A witness told KOMO News they were in line in the store when gunfire erupted.

He said a civilian with a gun confronted the gunman as he neared the civilian's family.

Then, moments later, she heard a "pop, pop, pop" coming from what she said was the other side of the store, and she said everyone froze. "This (suspect) could have taken out more people, wounded or killed", said witness Brian Adams.

"All of a sudden, you hear this pop or a crash sound.About 15 to 20 seconds maybe even later, another sound exactly the same", said John Gerasimczyk.

According to a police release, two armed civilians initially approached the suspect.

Investigators say the vehicle stolen during the earlier carjacking near the Toyota dealership was recovered in the Walmart parking lot.

"There were all kinds of people running out", Robert Berwick, who was in the back of the store, told the Seattle Times.
