'Roseanne' Cancelled After Barr's Racist Tweet

Yesterday Roseanne Barr showed Hollywood how to lose a hit show in record time and today she tried to defend herself by blaming her racist tweets on Ambien.

"People of all races, religions and nationalities work at Sanofi every day to improve the lives of people around the world", Sanofi, the maker of Ambien, tweeted Wednesday.

Roseanne Barr says that tweeting under the influence of the prescription sleep aid Ambien is what led her to post a racist remark that subsequently got her sitcom, "Roseanne", cancelled by ABC. She's been busy retweeting comments in support of her, while writing, "hey guys, don't defend me, it's sweet of you 2 try, but...losing my show is 0 compared 2 being labelled a racist over one tweet-that I regret even more". After the tweet went viral, Barr deleted it and apologized to Jarrett "and to all Americans". She explained that it was 2am when she wrote the tweet, "and I was ambien tweeting".

Barr's comment, which has now been deleted, was sent in response to a tweet that accused Jarrett of helping "hide" misdeeds for the Obama administration. She was replying to a tweet about Sykes when she wrote "her tweet made ABC very nervous and they cancelled the show". Have you been on Ambien for the past 15, 20 years?

Gilbert was then forgiven soon after by Roseanne, who tweeted: 'no, I understand her position and why she said what she said. i forgive her. In another tweet, Barr called billionaire Democratic donor and Holocaust survivor George Soros "a Nazi" who "turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in concentration camps & stole their wealth".

But after Barr's tweet that likened Jarrett, who is black, to a cross between the Muslim Brotherhood and the "Planet of the Apes", ABC canceled the show in a one-sentence statement from network entertainment president Channing Dungey. She also pushed the debunked conspiracy theory that businessman and philanthropist George Soros, who is Jewish, conspired with the Nazis.

In addition to the cancellation of her rebooted show, reruns of the original program, which ran for much of the 1990s, were pulled by Viacom.
