Of this squad list, four will be cut for the final group before the World Cup kicks off in June. However, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper will be monitored during the training camp, reports Xinhua news agency.

Injured Manuel Neuer was named in Germany's extended 27-man World Cup squad on Tuesday, but there was no place for Brazil 2014 victor Mario Goetze.

The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has not played since suffering a recurrence of a fractured foot in September, restricting him to just four appearances since the initial injury in April of a year ago.

While Goetze misses out, coach Joachim Loew pulled a surprise by handing Freiburg striker Nils Petersen a first call-up.

His club-mate Gotze, who scored the winning goal in the final as Germany triumphed four years ago, misses out, however, after struggling for fitness and form at Signal Iduna Park this term.

"He got 15 goals with a team that does not create many goal chances".

Marco Reus was also selected, but Borussia Dortmund teammate Goetze was left out.

Germany enjoyed a stunning success over hosts Brazil in the semi-finals, running out 7-1 winners, and went on to beat Argentina in extra-time in the final.

"It wasn't his best season".

German soccer federation president Reinhard Grindel criticized both players, who have Turkish roots, for posing for the photos, saying Erdogan's repressive control did not correspond with the values cherished by the DFB or football. "Some (of the reaction) seems to be over the top to me".

They open their World Cup campaign against Mexico on June 17, before fixtures against Sweden (June 23) and South Korea (June 27).
