Another offside in front of their posts and Racing were made to pay, Nacewa kicking his second penalty to hand Leinster a 15-12 lead, Tales going wide with an injury-time drop-goal that would have seen added time. Johnny Sexton, 9. Luke McGrath; 1. "They've got threats all over the park".

"Stuart Lancaster, what a special coach to come in and do what he's done", Sexton said.

"We stuck in there for the majority of the game, but big matches come down to big moments and we just got those wrong".

Racing, had lost outhalf Dan Carter before the match, they were then dealt another injury blow in the opening minutes when Pat Lambie suffered a knee injury.

"I thought Racing were outstanding today, really put pressure on us at the breakdown".

Lambie was also the designated place-kicker, after scrum-half Maxime Machenaud was ruled out through injury in recent weeks, and was consoled by former Ireland worldwide Donnacha Ryan as he left the field.

Racing's giant Fijian lock Leone Nakarawa was lucky not to be shone a yellow card after a deliberate knock-on with Leinster again on the front foot.

Sexton missed a long-distance chance to level nearly instantly as Cedate Gomes Sa didn't retreat and, when Barnes awarded the penalty, Eddy Ben Arous kicked the ball away and the English referee brought the penalty into the Racing half but it proved too far for the No 10.

That lead lasted just over 10 minutes as Nacewa launched a Leinster attack down the left wing that led to a penalty for the Irish province.

However, they benefited from Racing's lack of discipline and Nacewa scored the decisive penalties with Sexton carrying a groin injury.

By way of further gloss to their landmark day, Leinster also became only the second team after Saracens to win all nine of their European Champions Cup games in a season, with a Pro14 semi-final against Munster up next.

After Nacewa took over the kicking duties from Sexton, victory was secured.
