Giuliani says Trump ''d no Comprehension' of Cohen's Business clients

Randall Stephenson, the chief executive officer of AT&T, wrote in a company-wide letter to staff on Friday that the telecom giant made "a serious misjudgment" in its decision to hire President Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen as a consultant previous year. It was through Essentials Consulting that AT&T retained Cohen.

Sanders was asked Friday about Michael Cohen's payments from blue chip companies, including AT&T, which sought advice on its proposed purchase of Time Warner.

AT&T's head lobbyist, Bob Quinn, who oversaw the hiring of Cohen, is retiring, the memo said.

Quinn, who has been in his position since 2016, originally started with the Bell system as an operator for Illinois Bell in 1980, before AT&T was broken up by the Justice Department in a landmark antitrust action four years later.

In the wake of the revelation of Cohen's link to AT&T, ranking Democrats on antitrust subcommittees in both the House and Senate sent a joint letter to the Justice Department's top competition enforcer, Makan Delrahim, asking whether he knew of the company's payments to Cohen during his agency's independent review of the Time Warner merger.

Rudy Giuliani is standing by his Friday comment about President Trump blocking the AT&T merger with Time Warner, telling CBS News correspondent Paula Reid the Trump administration is blocking the merger and that he believes President Trump and the Trump administration are one and the same. AT&T disagreed, sending the battle into a federal trial. "Novartis believed that Michael Cohen could advise the company as to how the Trump administration might approach certain USA healthcare policy matters, including the Affordable Care Act", the company said in a statement to CNBC.

The disclosure of AT&T's ties to Cohen comes a critical moment for the company, which is defending its merger with Time Warner in federal court against the Justice Department's efforts to block the deal.

The FBI raided Cohen's home and office in April, as part of a probe being conducted by NY federal prosecutors.

The internal AT&T documents show that Cohen was supposed to spend half of his time on "legislative policy development" and the other half on "regulatory policy development".

'Everything we did was done according to the law and entirely legitimate.'

Cohen "approached" Quinn's Washington office of AT&T "during the post-election transition period and said he was going to leave the Trump Organization and do consulting for a select few companies that wanted his opinion on the new President and his administration - the key players, their priorities, and how they think", AT&T said Friday.

AT&T is saying that the hiring of Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen was a "big mistake".

Avenatti represents Daniels, 39, in two separate lawsuits against Trump and his longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

Trump "did drain the swamp..."

An attorney for Cohen did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Within Time Warner this week, officials were surprised to learn about the contract with Essential Consultants.

Weeks before that aboard Air Force One, Mr. Trump told reporters he was unaware of Cohen's payment to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

Though as he noted, he was never a registered lobbyist for AT&T.
