This year's memorial is held in memory of the 16 Texas law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in the past year.

"We are so grateful to our law enforcement officers and the work they do every day to protect residents and uphold the laws of our state", Lt Gov Wyman said.

The Candlelight Vigil-an annual tribute to our nation's law enforcement officers-has become a signature event of the National Police Week observance in the nation's capital.

4,000 men and women are in law enforcement in King County, serving 39 cities, three Tribal Governments, the University of Washington, and almost 250,000 residents living in unincorporated communities.

"While it takes many important attributes to be a successful police officer - courage, toughness, intelligence - the one attribute shared by the very best in the law enforcement profession is a sense of selfless love", said U.S. Attorney Kennedy. Delong was driving a Chevrolet pickup, which was reportedly stolen from Devils Lake.

At the request of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, Public Law 103-322 designates Peace Officers Memorial Day as one of only two days each year during which government agencies, businesses and residents are to fly their US flags at half-staff.

In 1853, King County Deputy Wesley Cherry was the first King County law officer to lose their life in the line of duty. Through the Department of Justice, my Administration will continue to provide our Nation's law enforcement agencies with the resources they need and deserve to keep our citizens safe and our communities secure.

It's an annual event that kicks off national police week. In humble appreciation of our hardworking law enforcement officers, Melania and I will light the White House in blue on May 15.

"Our law enforcement officers have our deepest gratitude for their unwavering dedication to protecting our lives, our property and our liberty", Burgum said.

On Friday, May 11, a memorial service I attended was held at our State Capitol in Madison at the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial, located on the north side of the capitol square.

The Metropolitan King County Council today joined communities across the United States in recognition of National Police Week.

On Thursday, there will be a Police Memorial Day Ceremony at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Camellia Boulevard.
